Sunday, 24th July, 2016    Baiting Maintenance                                                                                       

The baiting team will be doing maintenance on the nine bait lines that ASC monitor under the auspices of Ark in the Park and Forest and Bird.   These lines are through and adjacent to the Club’s Waitakere property and labelled KOk 1-9 to indicate the effort to preserve kokako in the area.  Any other Club members interested,

Omana to Beachlands:   Meet by the wharf at Maraetai at 10.30 for beach and coastal walk.   Approx. 4 hrs.

Weekend 5-7 August, 2016     Snowcraft course - Mt Ruapehu                                                           

The snowcraft course is an introductory level course intended for trampers and others interested in gaining skills, confidence and experience in alpine conditions. The course runs over one weekend at the Clubs’ Ruapehu Hut a few minutes walk from the Top of the Bruce road end at Iwikau Village, Whakapapa.  You should also be available for one Wednesday theory night (Wed 27 July).

There are no particular minimum requirements for attendees. Participants need a good level of fitness and to have clothing and equipment suitable for alpine weather conditions and prolonged exposure. We will spend a full day on the mountain - good clothing is important.

Sunday 14th August, 2016    Bike Ride on North Shore                                                                     

Using the Birkenhead/Northcote and Devonport ferries, complete a circuit on bikes.   We will use footpath/bike trails and roadways with bike lanes for most of the journey.  Starting at Birkenhead wharf at 9.30am or Downtown ferry terminal at 10am or Devonport wharf at 10.20am.   Ride will take about 4 hours.   Catch the ferry back to your starting point from Northcote wharf at 2.30pm.

St Mary’s Bay and the City.   Meet at Pt Erin Pool carpark at 10am to walk around Westhaven, Wynyard Quarter and into the city, enjoying some Auckland history.  No hills.

 Sunday, 28th August,  2016 Twin peaks - Rangitoto and Mt Victoria Summits

You've all seen the iconic silhouette of Rangitoto looming over the harbour entrance. If you haven't been up there, this is your chance!  We leave on the Fullers Ferry at 9:45am ($30 return), take the 25 min trip to the wharf, and walk to the peak (259m, 2hrs return) with great views of the gulf. Return via  Devonport, and walk up Mt Victoria for the view back, and some lunch.

Sunday, 4th September, 2016   Waitakere Hut Explorations

Meet at the Waitakere hut for a good circuit. First off the Cutty Grass Track, (keep your knickers on) and then dilly-dallying some of the little tracks along Scenic drive. If we are feeling good the Filter Track, returning up the Waitakere Tramline Walk to the Waitakere Reservoir for lunch.  Then the Fence

Line and Ridge Rd tracks back to our own sweet hut with a cup of tea and some cake. 15km. A good day.

Onehunga:   Meet at 10am at Onehunga Bay carpark, Beachcroft Avenue, to explore the new park.   A 3 hour flat walk.

Sunday, 11th September, 2016  Hunua Ranges by numbers, Part 5

We will continue our exploration of the Hunua Ranges by traversing Orum Road Track (Track 1) from Cosseys Dam to Moumoukai Road (or the other way around).  Estimated to take 5 hours.   We will need to do a crossover tramp where a party will start at either end of the track.   When the two parties meet on the track, drivers sway keys.   Meet at Papakura to organise drivers and cars.

Saturday & Sunday 17-18th September,  2016  Hapuakohe Tramp

Quite a trek, with magnificent views over the Hauraki Plains, quite some height (3-500m), some big Puriri and Tawa. A proper tramp. The first day is about 8 hours starting near Mangatarata, and heading south, camping overnight, and carrying on via the Maungakawa Trig (535m)  past lots of Rimu and Totara to the Mangapiko Scenic Reserve. We'll have to do some car shuffling.

Starting Sunday, 25th September, 2016  Inland Abel Tasman Track 

Brian and Sue Fitzpatrick are planning to walk the Inland Abel Tasman Track starting early on 25th September, 2016 from Maharau and ending at Totaranui.    It will take three and a half to four days. If you are interested please contact them on 576 1069 or email suzette@knockbane.co.nz or vicarsfp@knockbane.co.nz

  

Saturday, 1st October – Sunday, 2nd October,  2016  Tramping 101 - Waitawheta Valley

You've always wanted to know about tramping, what to put in your pack, how to cross a river, how to find your way on a map, how to route find, cook some dinner over a fire, and to put up a tent. Well, we have a deal for you!  Right at the start of the school holidays, you can bring your kids. We'll be camping at the Dickey's Flat campsite in the Waitawheta valley, because we need the river there!

Labour Weekend. Saturday  22nd Oct – Monday 24th  Oct,  2016  Tramping 102 - The Tongariro Circuit

You've done Part 1, and now you want to be adventurous. So let's do the circuit staying the Friday night at the A-Frame, and then bright and early we'll be on our way to the Waihohonu Hut, where you can either sleep in the hut, or Bivvy outside. Next day we head off to Oturere Hut, and a side trip route towards Mt Ngauruhoe. The next day is the exciting bit past the Emerald lakes, and checking out the Mt Tongariro Summit, and then cross country to the Mangetepopo hut and out to the road end, where we will get ourselves picked up.

Notes

Intending members/guests please book with the trip leader as early as possible.

For weekend trips no later than one week prior. For Saturday and Sunday day trips phone by Thursday at the latest.

Trips are held rain or sunshine. Recommended Levy for guests (non members) $ 5 per person for a day or weekend trip.

Transport contribution is 12c/km and Ruapehu transport for return trip is $50.

Remember to advise your family & friends that in the event of a trip being late,

enquiries should be directed to the Tours Officer or other Committee members listed inside the back cover of this magazine.

Occasionally a change of leader is necessary and an update is put on the website.

If you do not have Internet access and have not had a response to your phone call,

you are welcome to phone any member of the Tours sub-committee who will be able to advise you of the new leader.

  

    

Please note that you are responsible for your own safety and to provide adequate equipment for yourself on all club trips. You must ensure that you are fit and capable of undertaking the planned trip and you must advise the leader of any medical conditions or other issues that may affect the trip. If in doubt contact the trip leader

 

    

     

Some of the trips are marked TBA = To Be Advised. That means we do not have a leader at the time the trip was posted.
